XIAO YAO SAN - 逍遥散
Rambling Powder - Bupleurum & Angelica Formula
Xiao Yao San was originally formulated in 1151 AD during the Song dynasty where it was first described in the Tai Ping Hui Min He Ji Ju Fang - the Formulary of the Tai Ping Welfare Dispensary Bureau as one of the most principal formulas in the treatment of Liver Qi constraint and Spleen Qi deficiency.
Its primary function is to support the Liver's ability to help move the blood smoothly and evenly through the channels and internal organs. One of the main causes of Liver Qi constraint is excessive emotional strain or stress. When the Liver becomes congested, the blood and Qi gets blocked and stuck causing pain, bloating, distension and irritability.
The combination of blood nourishing herbs such as Dan Gui and Bai Shao along with strong blood and Qi movers such as Chai Hu and Bo He give Xiao Yao San a combined ability to tonify the blood whilst promoting the smooth flow blood and Qi.
Even with the herbal formula being composed 1000 years ago, Xiao Yao San still plays such an important role in current times with up to 90% of individuals experiencing some form of physiological and emotional stress. Xiao Yao San is one of the most versatile and useful herbal formulas to this day.
